From 1986 - To 1990

Vivekananda College was established under the Jurisdiction of Calcutta University in 1986 vide Calcutta University affiliation letter No. C/1057/252 Affl. Dated 20.10.1986. Sri Saral Deb, Founder President of the Governing Body and also the Minister-in-Charge, Co-operative Department, Govt. of West Bengal was taken an initiative to establish the Vivekananda College, Village + P.O.– East Udayrajpur, Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas. At the early stage, the Higher Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal sanctioned five subjects viz., Bengali, English, History, Political Science and Philosophy for Pass Level. Beside that the Higher Education Department also sanctioned one Principal Post, five substantive teaching posts and ten Non-teaching Posts vide Order No. 1697-Edn(cs) dated 06.10.1986. Sri Subhas Krishna Thakur joined as Lecturer in Political Science on 21.01.1987. He also took the chair as Teacher-in-Charge on 21.01.1987 to 07.12.1987. Dr. Ganga Sankar Chatterjee joined as Principal on and from 08.12.1987. After that four Lecturers joined in different subjects. The Student strength was only 45 (forty five) in Pass level. No Honours course was introduced at that time. Only 22 (twenty two) students appeared in B.A. (Pass) final examination and only 6 (six) students were passed. No concrete building was constructed at that time. There were four rooms which were made with tin shed and 'Darma' (bamboo). The financial position was very poor. The construction of Class rooms No. 5, 6, 7 and 8 was started before 1990. DRDA sanctioned amounting to Rs. 2 lac for building construction and Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal sanctioned Rs. 3 lac for constructing building.


From 1991 – To 1995

The Class rooms No. 5, 6, 7 and 8 were completed in this period. Further, the stair cases of first floor and class rooms No. 9 and 10 were constructed in this period but the flooring work was incomplete. At that time the student's strength was very poor and the result was not remarkable. The Library position was not good. The total furniture and number of benches were not up to the mark. At that time the 2(f) registration from UGC was approved vide letter No. F No.8-1/95 (CPP-I) dated 21st March 1995. At that time, the Higher Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal sanctioned amounting to Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand) only for purchasing Books for Library. The Higher Education Department was sanctioned a full time teaching post in Education.


From 1996 – To 2001

In 1996 the Higher Education Department sanctioned one teaching post i.e., Geography and also sanctioned one Lab attendant post for Geography. Further, the Higher Education Department was sanctioned Rs. 5 (five) lac for constructing building. Further, the College authority started two class rooms No. 11 & 12 of 1st floor and some works were incomplete. Further, the Higher Education Department sanctioned Rs. 25 (twenty five) thousand for Library books and Rs. 10 (ten) thousand for Games & sports. The first grant from UGC was received in the year 1996-97 amounting to Rs. 1 (one ) lac for equipments, one lac for building, 1.7 lac for Library and Rs. 40,402/- (Rupees forty thousand four hundred two) only for teachers scholarship. In 2001 only 40 students were appeared in B.A. (two year) Pass final examination and 15 students obtained 2nd Class and 11 students passed. In 2001-2002, the new course B.Com at pass level was introduced but admission was started 2002.


From 2002 – To 2006

In 2002, the total students strength was 335 and 16 students appeared in final examination in which 6 students obtained 2nd class and 7 students passed. At that time the College fund as per Audit Report viz, Closing balance Rs. 4, 71,800/- and fixed deposit Rs. 1.5 lac. The total number of books at Library was 4194. B.Com (Pass Level) admission started with 16 students for the session 2002-2003. No teaching staffs were sanctioned by the Government for conducting the B.Com course. We have no sufficient money to continue the B.Com course. So the Governing Body stopped the admission for B.Com in the year 2004. After 2002, two new teaching post was sanctioned by the Higher Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal. In that time, five full time teachers joined. We have introduced four Honours subjects viz, History, Geography, Bengali and Education. Further, the College authority started new construction viz. teacher's room, Principal's room, Office room, toilet, water line, boundary wall, and water reservoir and supply line. In this period, the college received Rs. 5 lac from M.P.L.A.D fund, Rs. 5 lac from Zella Parishad, Rs. 8.33 lac from M.P.L.A.D for boundary wall. We received from UGC 2.25 lac for building construction, Rs. 60,000/- for books and Rs. 45,000/- for equipments. We have introduced Computer training centre for general students for Computer training. After few years they could not be continued due to internal and external political disturbances.


From 2007 – To 2011

The Higher Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal sanctioned five new teaching posts viz. English, History, Geography, Education and Bengali in which two full time teachers joined. In this period we have started the construction of Students' Union room, Canteen room, Cycle Garage, Deep tube well, two Notice Board and Women's Hostel. Further, the UGC sanctioned amounting to Rs. 63,88,316/- for different heads viz. Building, Women's Hostel, Remedial Coaching, Entry-in-service, Books, Equipments, Students stipend etc. In this period Higher Education Department sanctioned Rs. One lac for Books and furniture. The college also received Rs. 10 lac. from MPLAD fund for constructing two class rooms. The college started the Women's Hostel under the financial assistance of UGC. We introduced Distance Education Post Graduate courses viz. Bengali, English, History, Political Science, Sanskrit in M.A. and M.Sc in Geography from DDE, Vidyasagar University.


From 2012 – To 2015

The college started new construction i.e., Second floor and stair cases. Further, the college authority started the conference room cum Seminar Hall & smart class, IQAC and meeting room, Modern Library room, well decorated reading room, NSS and Alumni Association oom. All are under the CCTV control. Six office counters along with shed, all drainage system including slab -structure, Rs.75 lac deposited to the PWD office for constructing new four storied building and the college authority is going to purchase three bighas of land for second campus. We arranged Rain water Harvesting, Gymnasium for Girl's students, Medicinal Plantation, adopted village for social work, animal nursing, signed MOU with Orion for opening Vocational courses from UGC for fashion designing, Mobile networking and Computer Hardware. At present, the total number of Library books are 10435, Total 35 Computers,4 - Laptops, 5 Water cooler machines, two smart class room, 22 A.C. machines (split & window), well furnished Geography department, Geography Lab along with Smart class room and 18 fire extinguishers. All are under CCTV (23 numbers) control and Air conditioned. Wi-Fi zone, large number of furniture, beautiful play ground, concrete pathay, three Generators (35 KV, 25 KV and 6 KV), Solar light system, Animal care MOU with NGO, Question Bank, Digital Library, Kanyasree Prakalpa, Minority stipend, SC/ST/ OBC stipend, Railway Concession etc. In this period, the UGC sanctioned amounting to Rs. 74, 26,024/- for above said development. Beside that the Higher Education Department also sanctioned Rs.66, 10,000/- for above development. In this period, two full - time teachers joined the post of Assistant Professors. Five full time Assistant Professor posts are lying vacant. We already submitted all the requisite papers to the West Bengal College Service Commission to fill up the five vacant assistant professor posts. At present, as per our Audit report for the year 2014-2015 the closing balance is Rs.1,23,99,338.02 and fixed deposit is Rs.1,18,23,388/-. We are proud of collecting minimum fees from the students, our result is remarkably sound. The college have 54% Minority students, 55% girls' students, 19% SC&ST students and 22% OBC students (approx). In this pathway, we are going to reach our goal. In this year (2015), the college authority opened the DDE Centre from Rabindra Bharati University and course offered viz. M.A. in Bengali, History, Education and Geography. We will assist them and consultancy fees will be received from them with proper processing.

After the change of West Bengal State Government in 2011, rapid progress has been achieved with the guidance of the Principal and Sri Rathin Ghosh, President of the Governing Body and the assistance of the teaching and Non-teaching staffs. Earlier this progress was resisted due to internal and external Political problems. At present, the total students strength for the session 2014-2015 is 2119 and library. Books are 10435 and all are internet connected computer facilities.
