About Department
Vivekananda College, Madhyamgram, a beloved institution, is accredited with an A+ grade by NAAC and is affiliated with West Bengal State University. The Department of Philosophy was founded in 1986, initially offering only general courses, with Honours programs introduced later in 2018.
Under the able leadership, initiative, and unwavering efforts of distinguished faculty members, the Department blossomed into a centre of excellence. It has played a key role in shaping the careers of many accomplished students who have made a lasting impact not only in academia but also in various renowned professional fields. As a result, the department boasts a strong alumni network, with many graduates achieving success in various fields.
The Department offers undergraduate courses in Philosophy. The objectives of the department are:
• To impart both theoretical and empirical understanding of the subject to students;
• To support students in pursuing higher education in Philosophy;
• Various interesting and researchable topics such as Ethics, Metaphysics, Epistemology, Views of Modern Thinkers, Philosophy of Self-Development, Philosophy of Religion, and others are taught by well-experienced faculty. In addition, we include our students in creating wall magazines, attending seminars, and other activities that help them grasp the fundamentals of the subject.
Along with academic achievement, we also prioritize the mental health of our students by communicating with them, understanding their issues, and helping them as effectively as we can. In order to support adolescents comprehensively as a second parent, we offer basic counselling.
We don't treat any student differently than another. By offering significant assistance, we maintain the qualitative goal of teaching. Each student is welcome to attend without hesitation or uncertainty. We shall be happy to have you all.
